Okaukuejo Camp in Etosha National Park

Okaukuejo Camp in Etosha National Park

Okaukuejo Camp is in the southern part of Etosha National Park and is one of the most well-known safari destinations in Namibia. It can be reached through Andersson Gate and is famous for its floodlit waterhole, where guests can watch animals such as elephants, rhinos, lions, and various plains game gathering both day and night. The camp is surrounded by open savannah and acacia woodlands and offers different types of accommodation, including standard double rooms, family chalets, and waterhole-facing chalets that give direct views of wildlife right outside.

The camp has many useful facilities, including a restaurant, bar, craft shop, fuel station, swimming pool, and picnic areas. These make it a convenient stop for both self-drive travellers and guided groups. In the evenings, the atmosphere becomes lively as the waterhole lights come on, attracting guests to sit on the benches and watch animals in safety and comfort.

Even though Okaukuejo can be busy, it keeps a relaxed and friendly feel. Accommodation is set out so that some units face the bush and others face the waterhole, giving guests privacy while still keeping them close to nature. From the camp, visitors can easily reach well-known waterholes such as Gemsbokvlakte, Okondeka, Nebrownii, and Ombika, which are especially active in the dry season when animals gather more often.

Wildlife sightings are common whether guests start their game drives early in the morning or return in the late afternoon. For those looking for more adventure, Okaukuejo also offers guided night drives where nocturnal animals can be spotted with the help of infrared lights. These drives give a different view of the park and allow guests to see species not often visible during the day.

With its prime location, wide range of facilities, and the unique experience of watching wildlife at a floodlit waterhole, Okaukuejo Camp remains a favourite choice for travellers wanting both convenience and close-up animal viewing inside Etosha National Park.
