Salvadora Waterhole is one of the well-known places for watching wildlife in Etosha National Park. It lies along the southern edge of the wide Etosha Pan in Namibia.
The waterhole is found between Sueda and Charitsaub waterholes, and its position makes it special because visitors can see both the animals and the open salt flats as a backdrop.
This mix of scenery and wildlife creates a unique experience for those exploring the park.
The waterhole is a natural spring that gathers water during the rainy season. Since it is close to the edge of the pan, the water can sometimes be slightly salty.
Even so, animals continue to visit it, especially in the long dry season when other water sources are limited. It becomes a reliable stop for many species, which makes it an important place for game viewing.
Large herds of zebras, springbok, and oryx are often seen here. Because of the steady presence of these grazers, predators such as lions and cheetahs also spend time nearby.
They are usually spotted resting in the shade of bushes or lying low in the grass. Visitors sometimes get the chance to see hunting scenes as predators wait for animals that come to drink.
The open and flat surroundings make it easy for visitors to watch wildlife clearly from their vehicles. This also makes Salvadora one of the better places for photography, especially in the early morning or late afternoon when the light is softer and the animals are more active.
Another feature of this waterhole is its position slightly below the main road. Cars can park above and observe the animals without causing disturbance. This small elevation gives a wide view of both the waterhole and the salt pan stretching out behind it.
Lions are often seen lying near the waterhole, and it is common to spot a whole pride in the area. Because of its active wildlife, open views, and dramatic setting, Salvadora Waterhole is remembered by many travelers as a highlight of their self-drive safari in Etosha. It is a must-stop point for anyone exploring the southern side of the pan.
