Namutoni Airstrip in Etosha National Park – Fly-In Safari Access & Wildlife Viewing

Namutoni Airstrip in Etosha National Park - Fly-In Safari Access & Wildlife Viewing

The Namutoni Airstrip is a small but very important landing strip located close to Namutoni Camp, one of the historic and well-known rest camps in Etosha National Park. It is found in the eastern part of the park, not far from the Von Lindequist Gate, which is one of the main entrances.

This gravel airstrip is mostly used for charter flights and fly-in safaris. It gives travellers a fast and convenient way to reach Etosha without having to drive for many hours from cities or other parts of Namibia.

It is especially useful for people flying in from Windhoek, Tsumeb, or from other private lodges and small airstrips across the country.

Many luxury safari operators use the Namutoni Airstrip to bring in guests as part of their fly-in safari packages. These packages often include comfortable accommodation, guided game drives, and a smooth travel experience.

Although the airstrip is not as large as a full airport, it provides the main services needed for safe arrivals and departures. There is a marked landing area, clear signs, and coordination with park staff or lodge guides who are usually ready to meet arriving guests. The airstrip is regularly maintained to make sure that flights land and take off safely.

One of the main benefits of landing at Namutoni Airstrip is the quick access it gives to some of the best wildlife viewing areas in the eastern part of Etosha. From here, visitors can easily reach famous waterholes such as Chudop, Klein Namutoni, Tsumcor, and Fischer’s Pan. These waterholes attract many animals and offer open views, making them popular for game drives.

Passengers also enjoy the approach to Namutoni, as flights often give wide views of the Etosha Pan, mopane woodlands, and herds of animals feeding in the open grasslands.

This area of the park is especially rich in wildlife, with large groups of zebras, elephants, giraffes, and antelopes often seen. Many bird species can also be spotted, making it a favourite place for birdwatchers and photographers.

The Namutoni Airstrip may be small, but it plays a big role in making Etosha more accessible and enjoyable for visitors.
