Ongava Private Game Reserve is in Namibia, just outside the southern boundary of Etosha National Park. It covers about 30,000 hectares and is well known for excellent wildlife viewing. Many travellers choose Ongava for an exclusive safari experience that is peaceful and full of close wildlife encounters.
One of the main reasons Ongava is special is because it offers activities not allowed inside Etosha. Guests can enjoy guided nature walks, night drives, and off-road viewing in certain areas. The reserve has an unfenced border with Etosha, so animals move freely between the two, making wildlife sightings even more rewarding.
Visitors have the chance to see a wide variety of animals, including lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and both black and white rhinos. Ongava is also home to the rare black-faced impala, which is not common in many other parts of Namibia.
Since the reserve is private, there are fewer vehicles on game drives. This makes the experience quieter and allows more time at each sighting. All activities are led by professional guides who share their knowledge about the wildlife, plants, and conservation work being done in the reserve.
Ongava offers four main choices for accommodation, each with its own style. Ongava Lodge is popular for its rock-and-thatch chalets and for having a waterhole where guests can watch animals from the comfort of the lodge.
Little Ongava is the most exclusive option, with only three villas. Each villa has a private plunge pool and wide views over the reserve, offering privacy and comfort.
Ongava Tented Camp gives a more classic safari feel, with large canvas tents set in the bush. This is a good choice for guests who enjoy being close to nature.
Anderssons at Ongava combines modern design with a strong focus on conservation and has a special underground hide next to the waterhole. From here, guests can safely watch animals from just a few metres away.
Ongava is ideal for travellers who want excellent wildlife viewing, comfortable accommodation, and the chance to enjoy activities beyond what is possible inside Etosha National Park.
