On this 8-day Okonjima and Etosha self-drive safari, you will spend one night at the AfriCat Foundation in Okonjima, where two activities are included.
After that, you will spend six nights in two different areas just outside Etosha National Park. You can either drive yourself inside the park or book guided game drives with us at an extra cost.
Day 1: Hosea Kutako International Airport to AfriCat Foundation (Okonjima)
When you arrive at Windhoek Airport, you will pick up your rental car with our help. Using the directions provided, you will drive north to Okonjima Nature Reserve.
Okonjima is a Herero word that means “Place of the Baboons.” It is home to the AfriCat Foundation, which works to care for, study, and rescue cheetahs. An afternoon game drive is included, so it is best to reach the lodge by early afternoon.
Dinner will be served at the lodge before you spend the night.
Day 2: AfriCat Foundation (Okonjima) to Eastern Etosha National Park
After breakfast, you will join a morning visit with AfriCat before checking out. You will then drive north to Mushara Camp, where you will stay for three nights with breakfast and dinner included.
You can spend the next two days driving through Etosha at your own pace or resting at the lodge. Your tented room comes with a private bathroom and veranda.
Etosha National Park is famous for its huge salt pan, which can even be seen from space, and for the many animals that gather at its waterholes. You can plan your route and take a picnic lunch to enjoy inside the park.
Day 3-4: Etosha National Park
You will go on morning and afternoon game drives in an open vehicle with a local guide from the lodge. After each drive, you will return to the lodge to relax, enjoy dinner, and spend the evening as you wish.
Day 5-7: Eastern Etosha to Southern Etosha National Park
Next, you will travel to the southwestern side of the park for another stay, with breakfast and dinner included. You can continue to self-drive inside the park or explore nearby areas.
Extra activities can be arranged in advance or booked at reception. These include a walking trail through the Mopane forest and stargazing at night. The park gates open at sunrise and close at sunset, so you must leave before sunset.
Day 8: Departure
On your last day, you will leave early in the morning and drive back to Windhoek. After returning your rental car, you will connect to your international flight home.
