Ongava Airstrip – Fly-In Access to Ongava Game Reserve & Etosha Safaris

Ongava Airstrip - Fly-In Access to Ongava Game Reserve & Etosha Safaris

The Ongava Airstrip is a private gravel landing strip in the Ongava Game Reserve, which lies on the southern side of Etosha National Park near Andersson’s Gate. It mainly serves guests staying at the exclusive Ongava lodges, which include Little Ongava, Ongava Lodge, Andersson’s at Ongava, and Ongava Tented Camp.

This airstrip is built for light aircraft and charter flights, making it a convenient way for travellers to arrive from Windhoek, Swakopmund, or other safari destinations in Namibia. It is carefully maintained to ensure safe landings and take-offs. The location is close to the lodges, so guests can enjoy a smooth and quick transfer to their accommodation.

When a flight lands, guests are met by friendly and professional lodge staff. Transfers from the airstrip to the lodges often pass through areas where wildlife can be seen, turning the short drive into the first game-viewing experience of the trip.

Because the Ongava Airstrip is private, it allows visitors to arrive directly inside the Ongava Reserve without having to go through the national park gates. This means they can start a game drive immediately after arrival. The airstrip offers direct access to both Ongava Reserve and Etosha National Park.

Ongava is a respected private conservation area that shares a border with Etosha. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including both white and black rhinos, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, and many kinds of antelope. The reserve is well known for its rhino conservation efforts, and guests have the chance to see these animals up close in their natural environment.

Activities available to visitors include guided game drives, walking safaris, and rhino tracking in the reserve. Full-day excursions into Etosha National Park are also offered, giving guests the opportunity to explore its famous landscapes and wildlife-rich areas.

Using the Ongava Airstrip helps visitors save many hours of road travel, especially for those coming from distant parts of Namibia. Instead of spending a full day driving, guests can arrive quickly, settle in, and begin exploring. From the moment they land, they can enjoy the scenery and wildlife, making the most of their safari time in both Ongava and Etosha.
