Dolomite Camp is on the far western side of Etosha National Park, set on a ridge of old dolomite rock with views over wide open plains. It is in an area of the park that was once closed to the public, giving guests a quiet and private experience.
The camp has twenty safari-style chalets built on raised wooden decks among the rocky ground. Three of these are deluxe chalets with private plunge pools and face east for sunrise views. The other seventeen face west, giving views of the sunset.
The chalets are designed to fit into the natural surroundings, with thatched roofs, canvas walls, and large wooden doors that open wide to show the landscape. Dolomite Camp is not fenced, so wildlife can move freely around the area. For safety, guests are always escorted after dark.
Even in its remote location, the camp has good facilities. Guests can swim in the infinity pool, enjoy the sunset deck, visit the curio shop, or sit by the fireside boma under the night sky.
Guided morning, afternoon, and night game drives are offered to more than fifteen waterholes in the area. These drives give opportunities to see elephants, black rhinos, leopards, lions, Hartmann’s mountain zebras, black-faced impalas, and many bird species. At certain times of the year, plants and flowers bloom on Dolomite Hill, which will interest nature lovers.
The rooms have modern comforts, including en-suite bathrooms with massage showers, tea and coffee stations, mosquito nets, safes, and housekeeping twice a day.
There is no fuel station close to the camp. Most guests arrive through Galton Gate, about 40 km away, and the final part of the road is best driven in a 4×4 vehicle. Dolomite Camp’s location, comfortable facilities, and guided activities make it a good choice for visitors who want to explore the western side of Etosha in a peaceful setting.
