Hobatere Lodge is a community-run safari lodge located just outside the western boundary of Etosha National Park. It sits in the scrubland of the ≠Khoadi-//Hôas Conservancy and offers a quiet, private setting only a short drive from Galton Gate.
The lodge is known for its genuine atmosphere, thatched roofs, and the warm welcome given by the staff. Guests arrive to a cosy communal area with comfortable lounges, a bar, a restaurant, and viewing decks that overlook a busy waterhole. There is also a swimming pool, which is a pleasant place to relax under the African sky.
The name “Hobatere” means “find me”, which fits well for a place that feels like a hidden retreat. Here, the sounds of the bush greet you along with a friendly welcome, a cool drink, and a refreshing towel on arrival.
Accommodation options include twin rooms, double rooms, and family units. Each has an en-suite bathroom, beds with mosquito nets, a small veranda, and tea and coffee facilities to make the stay more comfortable.
Guests can enjoy day and evening game drives in the lodge’s private wildlife concession. These drives offer the chance to see elephants, Hartmann’s mountain zebras, lions, giraffes, and nocturnal animals such as bat-eared foxes, aardwolves, and genets. Birdwatchers will appreciate the many species that come to the waterhole or live in the surrounding area.
Hobatere Lodge is strongly committed to conservation, with all projects led by the local community. This approach not only supports wildlife but also provides jobs and opportunities for local people. The peaceful surroundings and respectful way the lodge is managed make it a special place for travellers who want to enjoy nature while supporting community-based tourism.
