Onkoshi Camp is a well-known lodge in Etosha National Park, offering one of the most peaceful and private stays in the park. It is located in a remote area on the eastern edge of the Etosha Pan. This is a low-impact, eco-friendly camp that gives guests a quiet escape from the busier camps found elsewhere in the park.
The camp is built on raised wooden platforms, with chalets made from canvas walls and thatched roofs that blend with the natural surroundings. Each chalet is designed to give comfort and privacy while offering wide views over the white salt pan, which reflects the sky in beautiful colours at sunrise and sunset.
In the wet season, the area can attract flamingos and other waterbirds, adding to the calm atmosphere. Onkoshi is deliberately kept remote and can only be reached by pre-arranged transfers from Namutoni Camp. This helps maintain the silence and natural state of the environment.
The camp has only a few chalets and a honeymoon suite, making it ideal for travellers looking for privacy. Facilities include a dining area, bar, and plunge pool, all facing the salt pan so guests can enjoy the scenery while they eat, relax, or swim.
Onkoshi offers a stay far from the main safari routes of Etosha, giving guests a sense of being completely away from the modern world. Although wildlife numbers here are lower compared to other areas, guided game drives take visitors to exclusive parts of the northeastern sandveld. In these areas, guests may spot antelope, elephants, and sometimes predators, all in a much quieter setting than other sections of the park.
This combination of peaceful surroundings, limited guest numbers, and unique views over the Etosha Pan makes Onkoshi Camp a special choice for those who want both comfort and a deeper sense of seclusion during their time in Etosha National Park.
